Combining flavours, textures and tastes, Chef Russel Armstrong has compiled a selection of sharing plates for the festive season at Social Kitchen and Bar in Hyde Park. The Chef’s Selection comprises seven sharing plates for two people at R480, and is a perfect mix of fresh dishes bursting with colour and flavour.
“I believe that when beautiful flavours are combined with perfect technique, they deliver the best meals,” says Armstrong. “My inspiration for the festive season’s Chef’s Selection comes from my favourite mealtime-memories – sharing plates and sharing stories across the table with my family back in Australia.”
The set-menu starts with snacks of salty chorizo, garlic sausage and crispy potatoes, followed by fresh caprese salad and a quinoa salad with roasted walnuts, cauliflower and chilli. Dishes three and four are a pithivier of wood mushrooms, fino sherry and truffle cream; and a slow-roasted beef fillet from the josper. Dessert is a gorgonzola and truffle panna cotta with pear gel and then either mini pavlova or lemon curd tart with fresh berries.
“The menu really has something for everyone, and it takes you back to happy days of tables laden with plates and reaching across the spread to get that last roast potato,” says Armstrong.
