Let the good times roll with these fabulous bubblies.
AVONDALE ARMILLA BLANC DE BLANC 2009
Rich and round, Avondale Armilla 2009 is simply delicious. It’s crispy, and lively, with toasted hazelnut flavours and a velvety mouthfeel. Armilla is made from Chardonnay grapes, which were organically grown on the exquisite biodynamic Avondale wine estate. Cellar door price is R235.
GRAHAM BECK BRUT ZERO 2011
Made without the traditional addition of sugar (the dosage), Graham Beck Brut Zero is only made in exceptional vintages. It’s a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and remains on the lees for 60 months – it is refreshing and pure, with a lovely minerality and fresh green apples on the palate. Cellar door price is R280.
KLEINE ZALZE MÉTHODE CAP CLASSIQUE 2011
60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir have gone into this classic, oldworld style MCC that’s both intense and elegant. It’s a lovely pale gold colour, with brioche and biscotti aromas and mineral richness. Cellar door price is R160.
BOTTEGA EXTRA DRY PROSECCO
Fruity and flowery, this Prosecco is twice-fermented, giving it its characteristically lively bubbles and hints of yeast. You can expect scents of Golden Delicious apples and lilies, with fresh fruit on the palate as well. Recommended retail price is R220.
UITKYK GLASS MEMOIRE 2012
42% chardonnay and 58% pinot noir, Uitkyk’s MCC is named after the love letters engraved with diamond rings into the windows of the estate’s manor house by the ladies who lived there in the late 19th Century. The MCC has fine bubbles, with a zesty fresh palate with hints of lime. Cellar door price is R140.
PIERRE JOURDAN BELLE ROSE
It’s all pink and Pinot Noir with this MCC – no wonder the bubbly was named after a ‘beautiful rose’. The Pinot Noir grapes are handled gently to make sure that there’s just enough fruit, but not too much colour. Filled with berries and fruit, it’s delicately rich and goes very well with shellfish and duck. Cellar door price is R106.
